Catering Update from Illinois Tech Dining
July 8, 2025Illinois Tech Dining, operated by Chartwells Higher Education, has announced a leadership transition in its catering department. Racquel Pett, who has served as the university’s Catering Director, has recently accepted a new position outside of the company. Illinois Tech Dining extends sincere appreciation to Racquel for her contributions and dedication to enhancing campus events and hospitality services. -

July 1, 2025The Office of Student Life has worked to calendar out the required programming for new students across departments that occurs during Welcome Week (August 11–15). The following times are available for academic units to reserve for their own welcome events for students: 4–6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, and 8–10 a.m. and 4–6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13. -

July 1, 2025The Department of Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering presents its fall 2025 seminar series featuring José Pons, scientific chair of the Legs and Walking AbilityLab at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, who will present “Witnessing a Wearables Transition for Rehabilitation of Neurological Conditions.” This seminar is open to the public and will take place on Wednesday, August 27, from 12:45–1:45 p.m. in room 104 of the Rettaliata Engineering Center. -

Trees Planted at The Alphawood Arboretum in Celebration of Newly Graduated MLA+U Students and Arbor Day
June 17, 2025As part of the annual tradition, the Master of Landscape Architecture and Urbanism program (M.L.A.+U.) graduates had the opportunity to participate in planting trees at the Alphawood Arboretum to commemorate their graduation. Twelve new trees were planted as part of the commemoration which consisted of four crabapples (Malus sp.), three honey locusts (Gleditsia triacanthos), and five poplar-aspens (Populus tremuloides). -

Illinois Tech’s Indika Edirisinghe Finds That Eating Chickpeas Lowers Cholesterol
June 10, 2025In a small study, eating a daily cup of chickpeas lowered people’s cholesterol, scientists report June 3 at the annual American Society for Nutrition meeting. And a cup of either chickpeas or black beans per day reduced inflammation. -
