Judges Needed for IIT Research Day Student Poster Competition
April 2, 2013The IIT Office of Research is searching for faculty and staff to help recognize the hard work of IIT students and provide valuable feedback by serving as judges for the IIT Research Day Student Poster Competition. The competition is divided into graduate and undergraduate tracks and includes students from various academic departments. Three winners from each track will receive cash awards and plaques. -
Plan to Attend the Chicago Area SIAM Student Conference
April 2, 2013The Chicago Area SIAM Student Conference (CASSC) is the collaborative effort between applied mathematics students from IIT, Northwestern University and the University of Illinois at Chicago to host an annual event connecting students in applied mathematics and related sciences to developing branches of mathematics with industrial applications in and outside of academia. This year marks the first such jointly-organized conference, which will be held on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 at the UIC East Campus (UIC Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science). It will feature three plenary speakers: Donald Barnhart (i-Cyt/Sony), Raissa D'Souza (UC Davis) and Lev Reyzin (UIC) as well as shorter talks from graduate students and a poster session showcasing the work of graduate and undergraduate students. -
Design Summer Camp
April 2, 2013Each summer IIT Institute of Design hosts two sessions of Design Summer Camp, a five-day immersive experience into the design process that draws professionals from corporations and not-for-profit institutions from around the world. Participants learn to incorporate design methods into how they build new business offerings and enhance existing brands. -

IBM/SPSS Data Mining Workshop
April 2, 2013Marty Bariff will offer a hands-on tour of IBM/SPSS Modeler software for IIT faculty on Tuesday, April 9 from 12:45–1:30 pm in the AH218 Computer Lab. Take this test run to consider using the software in your courses or research. Applications include data quality, modeling for predictive analytics and pattern identification plus text analytics. The software is installed in almost all IIT computer labs from an IBM grant.
