Password Lockout News

As you know, passwords are a critical component of cybersecurity. To address this and try to significantly curtail any instances of hacking, Illinois Tech has a policy that contains various suggestions on how to create a strong password and protective measures, such as account lockouts when too many incorrect password attempts are made.

Beginning September 14, 2020, the Office of Technology Services (OTS) will decrease the number of allowable failed password attempts. After three failed attempts, the user will be prompted to reset the password online. Instructions on how to do this can be found on the OTS website. After five failed attempts, the user will be locked out and will have to contact the OTS Support Desk or the ITS Help Desk to request the account be unlocked and the password reset.

Please remember IIT staff and departments, including OTS and ITS, will never ask you for your password.

If you have any questions about this, please contact the OTS Support Desk by email at supportdesk@iit.edu or phone at 312.567.3375 (on campus x7DESK) or the ITS Help Desk by email at helpdesk@kentlaw.iit.edu or phone 312.906.5300.

Thank you for your cooperation.
