Alert: Email Phishing Attempts

Within the last several days, many IIT faculty, staff and students have received emails requiring portal ID, email addresses and passwords. These messages should be marked as spam or deleted immediately.

If you replied to any of these messages and provided your password, please log into the portal or contact the Office of Technology Services Support Desk and change your password to something you have not used previously.

For future reference, OTS will never ask for sensitive information, such as your password in an email. IIT uses Google’s anti-spam software for email. Google controls all real-time spam definition updates. The easiest way to report spam to Google is to mark the message as spam using the following steps:

1. In Google Webmail, select the message (check mark on the left or open the message).

2. Click the Mark As Spam icon (this looks like a stop sign with an exclamation mark at the center).

Google will add the email address and message to its spam definition list.

For assistance about this issue, call the OTS Support Desk at 312.567.3375 or email supportdesk@iit.edu.
