Second Opportunity to Opt-In to Early Gmail/Google Apps Migration (Update)

The Office of Technology Services is offering faculty and staff a second opportunity to opt-in for early migration of your username@iit.edu account to Gmail ahead of your department’s mass migration. The new Gmail accounts offer several benefits, including more storage and integration with Google Apps.

To request that your email be migrated to Gmail early, submit the opt-in form available on the OTS website, beginning Thursday, June 21. The opt-in form will be available for two weeks. After that, OTS will follow up with eligible users to confirm the early migration and the approximate schedule for the move (summer 2012).

To opt-in for early migration—

  1. You must already be familiar with the Gmail interface because you have a personal Gmail account.
  2. You will read your username@iit.edu email only using the following methods: online via the Gmail interface; Outlook, but no Archive(s) Files (no additional mail accounts configured in Outlook); Outlook, IMAP-only; and Outlook, POP3. Thunderbird/MacMail and other email client use is acceptable, if other criteria are met. Most PDA/iPad/Android devices are acceptable. Blackberry users are not eligible for early migration.
  3. Your email account/calendar are not currently served via Microsoft Exchange Server.

Users affiliated with IIT Stuart School of Business and IIT Institute of Design are not eligible for early migration of their username@iit.edu, username@stuart.iit.edu, or username@id.iit.edu accounts. IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law accounts already have been migrated.
