Plan to Attend the Chicago Area SIAM Student Conference

The Chicago Area SIAM Student Conference (CASSC) is the collaborative effort between applied mathematics students from IIT, Northwestern University and the University of Illinois at Chicago to host an annual event connecting students in applied mathematics and related sciences to developing branches of mathematics with industrial applications in and outside of academia. This year marks the first such jointly-organized conference, which will be held on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 at the UIC East Campus (UIC Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science). It will feature three plenary speakers: Donald Barnhart (i-Cyt/Sony), Raissa D’Souza (UC Davis) and Lev Reyzin (UIC) as well as shorter talks from graduate students and a poster session showcasing the work of graduate and undergraduate students.

In addition, attendants will have the opportunity to learn more about careers in applied math during a panel discussion and expand their professional network at Saturday’s lunch and evening reception.

Graduate students are invited to register to give short talks or to participate in the poster session. Undergraduates are also welcome to submit abstracts for the poster session.

To register as an attendant or to submit an abstract for a talk or poster presentation, please visit the CASSC website (under the “Registration” tab). The registration deadline for talk or poster presenters is Friday, April 12. The registration deadline for all other attendants is Friday, April 19.

Questions about the conference should be directed to CASSC board members, for whom contact information is available under the “The CASSC Board” tab on the conference website. You can also contact CASSC IIT Chair Barrett Leslie at bleslie@iit.edu.
