    In the first week of March, more than 11 states were hit hard by an early round of spring tornadoes. The storms came earlier than usual this spring and in the middle of the night, leaving many families unprepared for the devastation. Thousands of people were affected, hundreds of homes wiped away and 40 people lost their lives.

    Electronic Waste Collection Days at IIT

    IIT will host three electronic waste collection days in March. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to bring unwanted electronic devices on Wednesday March 14, Thursday March 15 and Saturday March 31 to be recycled in an environmentally responsible manner. All electronics will be recycled domestically in an by certified e-waste recycler Universal Recycling Technologies, Inc.

  • Segerstrale Elected Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts

    Ulllica Segerstrale, sociology professor and a scholar in science, social values and other areas known for her book Defenders of the Truth: The Battle for Science in the Sociobiology Debate, has been elected a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. She received her membership at the annual gathering of EASA in Salzburg on March 3.

  • Announcing the First Results from Daya Bay: Discovery of a New Kind of Neutrino Transformation

    Multinational Collaboration Includes Faculty and Students at Illinois Institute of Technology. The Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment, a multinational collaboration operating in the south of China, today reported the first results of its search for the last, most elusive piece of a longstanding puzzle: how is it that neutrinos can appear to vanish as they travel? The surprising answer opens a gateway to a new understanding of fundamental physics and may eventually solve the riddle of why there is far more ordinary matter than antimatter in the universe today.
