February 11, 2025The Pritzker Institute of Biomedical Science and Engineering is solicitating fellowship applications for the 2025–2026 academic year for highly qualified Illinois Tech doctoral students pursuing thesis work in the field of biomedical science or biomedical engineering. The institute will host a workshop for Illinois Tech faculty on Wednesday, February 19, from 12:50–1:45 p.m. on Zoom and in the lower-level conference room C/D located in the Tech Business Center, 3440 South Dearborn Street. -
WISER Issues Request for Proposals for 2025 Seed Funding Grants Program
February 11, 2025Illinois Tech's Wanger Institute for Sustainable Energy Research (WISER) has issued a Request for Proposals for the 2025 Cross-disciplinary Seed Funding Grants (CSFG) program. Initiated in 2009, the CSFG program is designed to support and enhance new and innovative cross-disciplinary research concepts that are expected to attract major external funding in areas of national interest related to energy and sustainability. -

February 11, 2025The Ethics Center is part of an international team of researchers that seeks to understand the current usage of Large Language Models by educators in Higher Education. The aim of this survey is to gather data on the integration, benefits, and challenges associated with LLMs in higher education and shed light on the ethical issues and trustworthiness concerns that may arise and how they can be addressed. -

Silver in Antimicrobial Plastic Packaging Leaches Into Foods
January 23, 2025Timothy Duncan, a research scientist at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), along with colleagues from the Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH), demonstrated through research that silver can leach from nanoparticle-containing plastic packaging into the food it holds. While antimicrobial packaging is recognized for its ability to extend food shelf life, prevent illnesses, and reduce food waste, this new research highlights a reason for caution when using such materials, and could play a role in future policy decisions. -

December 10, 2024Illinois Tech will host the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) 2025 from June 2 to August 8, 2025. This program offers immersive, hands-on research opportunities that allow participants to explore exciting data science and computational mathematics topics. All applications received by January 31, 2025, will be fully considered. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.
