Gmail, Google Apps for Faculty and Staff Coming Soon

Update: An earlier version of this announcement included @kentlaw email addresses as part of the transition.   This inclusion was in error.  Apologies for any confusion this may have caused.

Office of Technology Services (OTS) will soon begin migrating all faculty and staff email accounts and calendaring to a Gmail and Google Apps for Education environment. The migration will be scheduled department by department. Individual users will be provided with self-migration tools. OTS staff will be on hand for each department’s migration to assist. Student email accounts were migrated in 2011.

Highlights of the change for faculty and staff include:
• Keep your existing @iit.edu or @stuart.iit.edu email account
• Gmail environment replaces Webmail for viewing email over the Internet
• Messages in existing email accounts will be automatically moved to Gmail and tools are available to migrate downloaded/archived email as well. Post-migration all email goes directly to the Gmail environment
Email account quotas are increasing from 200MB to 25GB in Google Apps.
• Existing Sun One calendar disabled at time of migration for individual users; manage future calendar items through Google calendar

Documentation about the migration may be viewed on the Office of Technology services website. Contact OTS Support Desk at supportdesk@iit.edu or 312.567.3375 with questions.
