    Securing IIT’s Wireless Network

    Over the past several years, the Office of Technology Services (OTS) has upgraded the IIT Main Campus wireless network to a faster and more secure technology. The secure (encrypted) wireless network, IIT-Secure, is available in most campus buildings and will continue to be deployed throughout the campus. OTS has started disconnecting the non-encrypted IIT-WiFi wireless network. When the IIT-WiFi network is disabled, the OTS managed networks on Main Campus will be IIT-Connect, IIT-Secure and IIT-Console.

    Annual IIT Network Registration

    The annual Main Campus network registration process will begin on Monday, July 29 at 7:30 am. Annual network authentication and registration are necessary to secure the shared technology resources of the IIT community. All wired and wireless devices connected to the IIT network must be registered in order to access email, Internet or network systems. Users at other IIT campuses only need to register when they are on Main Campus.

    IIT Emeritus Professor Peter Lykos Has Passed Away

    Illinois Institute of Technology Emeritus Professor of Chemistry Peter Lykos passed away on July 16. Peter Lykos joined the Department of Chemistry in 1955, retiring in 2013. He had a distinguished academic career as a physical chemist and a strong interest in the area of computers in chemistry, now known as computational chemistry. Lykos was a pioneer in the use of computers in the classroom, introducing them to IIT classes in 1959, and was also instrumental in the development of IIT’s Saturday program, teaching computer science to thousands of high school students and their teachers in the 1960s.

  • 2013-14 Federal Work Study Allotments

    2013-14 Federal Work Study Allotments

    The Office of Financial Aid has notified eligible departments of their available Federal Work Study funds for the 2013–14 academic year. Department allocations were based upon the percentage of total work study funds used by the department during the 2012–13 year. Unfortunately, IIT’s total work study allocation has once again been reduced for the upcoming year, resulting in limited resources for departments.

    IIT’s annual summer picnic will be held on Wednesday, July 24 from 12:30–3:30 pm at Morton Park on Main Campus. Enjoy a buffet, desserts, games, raffle prizes, and more!
