CTBUH and IIT Begin $300,000 Research Project to Study the Life Cycle of Tall Building Structural Systems
December 5, 2012The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), in conjunction with Illinois Institute of Technology, has launched a multi-faceted research project to study the life cycles of various tall building structural systems, sponsored by a $300,000 grant from ArcelorMittal. “A Whole Life Cycle Assessment of the Sustainable Aspects of Structural Systems in Tall Buildings” will create a definitive comparison of the life-cycle implications of steel, concrete and composite structural systems in tall buildings. -
Several news outlets reporting on the transport of One World Trade Center’s attenna from Canada to New York note that a design change to the spire earlier this year may keep it from being included in the official height, which would make it only the third tallest building in the US, according to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat at IIT.
