Faculty & Staff Judges Needed for the Grainger Computing Innovation Prize – Round 2
October 2, 2025We are looking for a few volunteers to help judge the Grainger Computing Innovation Prize Round 2 presentations. Judges will listen to six student presentations and evaluate them to determine who advances to the next round. The session will take place on Wednesday, October 15, from 12:50–2:30 p.m. with a free lunch for judges from 12:15-12:45. -

Why Are Some Trees on Campus Brown? Alphawood Arboretum Explains
September 18, 2025You may have noticed clumps of browning trees across Mies campus, and noticed webs on trees often accompanied by a worm. This is the result of an extensive infestation of mimosa webworm on our locust trees. Even though the feeding damage is unsightly, it is unlikely to significantly impact the health of infested locust and hawthorn trees. Management will begin next spring with non-toxic biological control pesticide. -

September 9, 2025The Office of Student Success will host a very important sessions entitled Lessons in Leadership with Michael Strautmanis, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at The Obama Foundation at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in the MTCC Auditorium. This talk will aim to provide students with a unique opportunity to expand and foster their leadership development, lifelong learning, and interpersonal communication skills, while also gaining real-world insight as student leaders within their classroom, clubs, and groups. -
Weekend Dining Update: Expanded Halal and Plant-Based Options at The Commons
September 4, 2025The Global Halal station is open for lunch and dinner on Saturdays and Sundays. This change comes in response to student feedback and reflects our commitment to clearly communicating the availability of Certified Zabiah Halal hand-slaughtered proteins. In addition, the Rooted station will also be open on weekends, offering a variety of vegetarian and vegan plant-based proteins, including tofu, Beyond Meat, and PAOW! alternatives, and more. Rooted also prioritizes Jain-friendly recipes, which exclude root vegetables. -

Celebrate the National Register Listing of a 1964 Modernist & Brutalist Residence by One of Illinois Tech’s Own on September 27
August 21, 2025We’re thrilled to announce the listing of the Rockwell House in the National Register of Historic Places. The Rockwell House is an AIA award-winning Modernist and Brutalist glass pavilion residence built in 1964 by H. P. Davis Rockwell (’57), a protege of Mies van der Rohe and Alfred Caldwell. To celebrate our historic landmark designation, we're hosting an event on September 27, 2025, at the Rockwell House in partnership with Design Within Reach. -

August 21, 2025Illinois Tech Dining, operated by Chartwells Higher Education, is pleased to announce the appointment of Armon Ruffin as the university’s new Catering Director. A proud Chicago South Side native and lifelong Bears fan, Armon brings over 20 years of hospitality management experience, having led food and beverage operations at some of the city’s most prominent hotels, including the Hilton Chicago, Fairmont Chicago, and the W Hotel. -
Dyslexia-Friendly Font Available in Canvas
August 21, 2025In Canvas, both students and instructors may now choose to use a dyslexia-friendly font as their default font. The font, called OpenDyslexic, is a typeface designed against some common symptoms of dyslexia.
