    Miles N. Wernick, director of IIT's Medical Imaging Research Center and Motorola Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, gave a talk about medical imaging and crime prediction at Motorola Solutions during Big Data Week Chicago, held April 22–28. He also was part of the panel discussion "Video Analytics in the Wild: Practical Considerations in Large-Scale Deployment," organized by Motorola Solutions.

  • Vivian Weil Honored with the Sterling Olmsted Award from the American Society for Engineering Education

    Vivian Weil Honored with the Sterling Olmsted Award from the American Society for Engineering Education

    Vivian Weil, director of IIT's Center for the Study of Ethics in the Professions, will be honored with the Sterling Olmsted Award from the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) at the organization's annual meeting in Atlanta on Tuesday, June 25. The Sterling Olmsted Award, given by the Liberal Education and Engineering Studies Division, is the highest offered by the ASEE. The award recognizes those who have made distinguished contributions to the development and teaching of liberal arts in engineering education.

  • WISER/Galvin Center Host CPS Morton School of Excellence at IIT “Living Lab”

    On June 4, two school buses filled with more than 40 students and teachers from CPS Morton School of Excellence arrived at IIT to visit the WISER/Galvin Center living laboratory for education and research initiatives in energy and sustainability. The trip was organized by CPS faculty members Rosalind Ali (math department) and Kendra Mallory (science department) to coincide with a unit on sustainability and renewable energy technology recently completed by Morton School’s sixth, seventh and eighth graders.

    IIT Cohosts MICE Collaboration Meeting

    Illinois Institute of Technology is cohosting the 36th Collaboration Meeting of the International Muon Ionization Cooling Experiment (MICE) with Fermilab, Monday, June 17 through Wednesday, June 19. Dan Kaplan, professor of physics and director of IIT Center for Accelerator and Particle Physics; Pavel Snopok, assistant professor of physics; and Yagmur Torun, associate professor of physics, are organizing the meeting.

    Architecture Student Receives Special Mention in Schiff Competition

    IIT College of Architecture graduate student Penelope Phylactopoulos received a Special Mention in the 2013 Schiff Foundation Fellowship for Architecture competition. Each year, IIT, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the University of Illinois at Chicago nominate a select group of students to submit projects developed in advanced design studios. Phylactopoulos, who was mentored by Professor John Ronan, entitled her project "Silence Retreat." Only two awards were given this year, first place and the special mention.
