Senator Durbin Visits IIT to Talk Immigration Reform
June 5, 2013Illinois Senator Dick Durbin visited IIT on June 3 to speak about immigration reform legislation moving through the Senate that would provide an easier path to citizenship for students who complete graduate level degrees in STEM fields. IIT Vice President David Baker and PhD candidate Mehdi Ganji joined the senator along with Chicago Council on Global Affairs Vice President Rachel Bronson and Mark Segal from the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. -

Sign Up for I-Buddy Today
June 4, 2013The IIT International Center has developed the I-Buddy program for current students to help incoming international students prepare for and adjust to life at IIT and in the United States. Current students do not need to be from the U.S.; everyone is welcome to act as a buddy so long as they have spent two semesters on campus. -
Caryn Schnierle Named Associate Vice Provost for Enrollment Management
June 4, 2013Vice Provost for Admission and Financial Aid Mike Gosz is pleased to announce that Caryn Schnierle has been promoted to associate vice provost for enrollment management. Schnierle, who most recently served as the director of enrollment management research, has been integral in developing a culture of data-driven decision making in undergraduate admission and financial aid. In her new role, she will report to the vice provost for admission and financial aid, and will create and execute an action plan that effectively advances the significant undergraduate enrollment goals of the university. -

June 4, 2013Each spring and fall, IIT Main Campus bird aficionados flock to an early morning escorted walk that showcases the remarkable variety of feathered creatures that frequent this urban environment. The walk is led by Geoffrey Williamson, professor and interim chair, IIT Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, along with David Baker, vice president of external affairs. This spring's walk was held on May 14. -

May 30, 2013IIT Vice President of Facilities and Public Safety Bruce Watts announced this week that Carl Dobrich is the new director of Public Safety for the university. -
IIT President John Anderson and Illinois Science & Technology Coalition president and CEO Mark Harris wrote an op-ed for the Chicago Sun-Times arguing that immigration reform is needed for Illinois to keep STEM-focused talent and encourage entrepreneurship.
