    Have you ever wanted to give the IIT Office of Campus Energy and Sustainability a piece of your mind? Bounce ideasoff of staff members? Get real reasons why certain sustainable practices haven't been implemented at IIT? (Like, green roofs, for example?) Bring your questions, concerns, comments and ideas to the April Sustainability Forum, which is all about collaboration. We'll start by telling you what we've done so far, and spend most of our time letting you tell us what you think. The forum will be held on Friday, April 19 from noon–1:30 pm in S. R. Crown Hall.

  • Earth Day Celebration

    UFARM IIT (also known as IPRO 314) is hosting an Earth Day Celebration at the Community Garden on IIT MainCampus. Come learn more about the garden, how to be a part of it, how to grow your own food, and more! The event will be held on Saturday, April 20 from 1:00–4:00 pm in the Community Garden, which is located in the Greek quad.

    IIT College of Architecture adjunct professor Carol Ross Barney's firm, Ross Barney Architects, has a project featured in the March/April 2013 edition of Chicago Architect magazine. Chicago Architect is published by the Chicago Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The project is a temple for the Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation in Evanston, Ill.     National Library Week is April 14–20 and this year’s theme is Communities Matter @ Your Library. Paul V. Galvin Library is an integral part of the IIT community and we want to celebrate National Library Week with you! Our Undergraduate Research Specialists will be on the MTCC bridge from 12:40–1:50 pm this Monday through Thursday to celebrate libraries and bring awareness to library resources. There will be snacks and prizes, and you’ll even get a chance to tell us how YOU feel about libraries.

    Call for ISO Writing Contest Entries

    If you love to write or simply want to share your story, please consider entering the spring 2013 ISO (International Students Organization) Writing Contest. You could win a great prize! The contest topic should be on your experience or story about entering a new culture—such as Chicago—or even IIT’s diverse campus community. Submissions should be no more than 1,000 words. The entry deadline is Sunday, April 28. The prize is $100 in Tech Cash ($50 gift value).

  • IIT Wins Big in Parker Hannifin Chainless Challenge

    Five MMAE undergraduates—Bob Meyer, Dan Milewski, Sean O'Halloran, Josh Buck, and David Moreno [left to right in photo, with advisor Professor Matthew Spenko]—finished third overall in the Parker Hannifin [Corporation] Chainless Challege, held the week of April 7 in Irvine, Calif. This marks the second time IIT has participated in the invitational event, whose objective is for teams to replace the chain of a bicycle with a fluid-power-driven system.

    IIT Students Excel at Chicago Area Undergraduate Research Symposium

    More than 160 undergraduates in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, economics, humanities and engineering, among others, and from nearly a dozen institutions participated in the Chicago Area Undergraduate Research Symposium held on April 6 at the Hermann Hall Conference Center on IIT Main Campus. IIT students excelled at the annual event, winning in three categories: Overall Poster Presentation—Barrett Leslie Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology—Catalina Rivera Math, Computer Sciences, Engineering, Physics—Xin Zheng: A Novel Approach in Detecting the Normal and Shear Forces at the Fingertips with Minimal Hysteresis

    Volume 5 of the Graham-funded New Geographies journal aims to recast the Mediterranean as a contemporary phenomenon and spatialize its region-making processes as a larger geographic entity in the twenty-first century. On April 18, Antonio Petrov, editor-in-chief of Volume 5, considers major topics of the new issue with Sean Keller, Clare Lyster, and Hashim Sarkis in a panel discussion moderated by Stephen J. Ramos.
