April 2, 2012Just a mile and a half south of IIT's Main Campus is an urban nature preserve that has provided a safe and inspiring learning environment for children in need for 15 years. Eden Place Nature Center is located in Fuller Park, one of Chicago’s most neglected neighborhoods, adjacent to an industrial train yard and on the site of what once was an illegal dump afflicted with lead contamination. -

Adjunct Professor Andrew Metter to Discuss Urban Farms at AIA Chicago
March 29, 2012Architecture Adjunct Professor Andrew Metter will lecture on "Urban Farm and Food Pantry Prototype for the 21st Century" at AIA Chicago at 6 pm on Thursday, April 5. Metter will discuss his model for a more sustainable method for food production and distribution to Chicago's hungry families, based on both his personal research and IIT studio investigations. Metter's lecture is part of AIA Chicago's "A Year to Grow" series, exploring the role of architects in urban agriculture and food systems. -
Martin Klaeschen Wins Eckhart Park Design Competition
March 21, 2012Eckhart Park Advisory Council recently announced winners for the Noble Square park’s design competition. The Eckhart Park Design Competition called for submissions to recognize donors to the park’s redevelopment plan. Adjunct Associate Professor Martin Klaeschen and partner Carl Ray Miller’s design focused on a donor recognition wall with an earthen mound that would act as both stage and seating for park activities. -

Architecture’s Terry Guen to Work on Navy Pier Redesign
March 16, 2012Adjunct Professor of Landscape Architecture Terry Guen will work on the Navy Pier redesign, slated to open for the pier's centennial in 2016. Guen's design team, lead by landscape architect James Corner, was chosen by the Navy Pier board in an international competition. The board will work with the Corner team on the final design proposal over the next few months. -
Associate Professor of Architecture John Ronan talks to AIA Chicago about practice, academia, and Chicago. Ronan’s Poetry Foundation in Chicago received a 2012 AIA Institute Honor Award.

John Ronan’s Gary Comer College Prep Gets Third Place in Driehaus Foundation Awards for Architectural Excellence in Community Design
March 6, 2012Associate Professor John Ronan's Gary Comer College Prep finished third in the annual Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Award for Architectural Excellence in Community Design, the foundation announced on February 27. The charter school's striking green exterior enlivens its neighborhood setting, and it shares facilities with the Ronan-designed Gary Comer Youth Center.
