IIT Researchers Win American Academy of Environmental Engineering and Science Honor Award
March 27, 2013Illinois Institute of Technology researchers Krishna Pagilla, professor of environmental engineering, Benjamin Stark, professor of biology, and graduate students Marina Arnaldos (Ph.D. ENVE ’12) and Stephanie Kunkel (BIOL) were awarded the Honor Award for University Research by the American Academy of Environmental Engineering and Scientists (AAEES) for their research, “Improving Energy Sustainability of Wastewater Treatment by Low DO Nitrification Process.” -

Associate Professor of Physics Jeff Terry Gives Colloquium at Columbia University
March 12, 2013Jeff Terry, associate professor of physics, gave the Material Science and Engineering Colloquium at Columbia University. His talk, titled “Synchrotron Radiation Studies of Advanced Nuclear Energy Materials,” focused on the application of synchrotron techniques to measure the electronic structure and the nano- and meso-scale geometric structure of materials of interest to the nuclear community. -
Boris Glavic Receives IIT ERIF Grant for Interdisciplinary Research with Psychology
March 6, 2013Boris Glavic, assistant professor of computer science, and Eric Houston, assistant professor of psychology, have been awarded a one-year IIT Educational and Research Initiative Fund (ERIF) grant for $25,000 for an interdisciplinary approach for assessing treatment motivation among patients undergoing antiretroviral therapy, integrating multidimensional scaling with data provenance techniques." -

Applied Mathematics Professional Master’s Program to Launch Fall 2013
March 4, 2013In fall 2013, IIT will launch a new professional master’s program in applied mathematics. This non-thesis master’s degree will provide applied and computational mathematics training in conjunction with teaching communication and teamwork skills demanded by today’s employers. The program offers students an exciting capstone experience solving serious, real-world problems in business and industry using modeling, statistical and data analysis, stochastic analysis and optimization techniques. -
Honoring Dale Webster, Bacterial Hemoglobin Pioneer – March 7
February 25, 2013The biology department will honor Dale Webster, distinguished professor of biology, professor emeritus, and founder of the field of bacterial hemoglobins, on Thursday, March 7. The day’s activities will include a lunch, campus tour, and visit to the department. -

Successful Opening Event for Chemistry Division
September 14, 2012Seventy people gathered in the lobby of Life Sciences Building on August 28 to welcome new students and faculty in the chemistry division of the biological and chemical sciences department, and to celebrate the division’s new home and office space.
