    About 84,000 meals are donated daily to the hungry and homeless people in Chicago. Make a difference this Ramadan. Fast to Feed by supporting the hungry and the homeless. On Tuesday, July 23, fast for the day, then join IIT's Muslim Students Association to break the fast at 7:45 pm in the Armour Dining Room, located in Hermann Hall.

    Make Certain You Are Signed Up for IIT Alert Emergency Messages

    As some of you may know, an IIT Alert and All Clear messages were issued on Tuesday, July 16 in the early afternoon. The IIT Alert system was put in place several years ago to notify the IIT community by cellular phone and email of any potential safety threats to students, faculty and staff. If you are not signed up to receive IIT Alert messages, please take a moment to register your mobile phone and email to receive these important alerts at https://www.iit.edu/iitalert.   • The X-Cube Kicks It Up a Notch

    Last winter, IIT Magazine reported on Dane Christianson, now a third-year mechanical engineering student, and his X-Cube twisty puzzle invention. On June 7, Christianson opened a Kickstarter crowdfunding page to help raise money to manufacture the puzzle for possible distribution through Marbles the Brain Store and within one week, surpassed his goal of $30,000. (As of today's posting, more than $46,000 has been raised for the X-Cube.)

  • WISER/Galvin Center Host CPS Morton School of Excellence at IIT “Living Lab”

    On June 4, two school buses filled with more than 40 students and teachers from CPS Morton School of Excellence arrived at IIT to visit the WISER/Galvin Center living laboratory for education and research initiatives in energy and sustainability. The trip was organized by CPS faculty members Rosalind Ali (math department) and Kendra Mallory (science department) to coincide with a unit on sustainability and renewable energy technology recently completed by Morton School’s sixth, seventh and eighth graders.

  • IIT Architecture Alumni Team Places 2nd in San Fernando Valley Design Competition

    A team of IIT College of Architecture alumni placed second in a design competition for a 20-unit affordable housing complex in California. The "Beyond the Box" team consisted of Matthew Abbott (ARCH ′11), Aric Austermann (ARCH ′11), Ryan Bloom (ARCH ′11), Marcos Guerrero (AE ′12), Mark Swingler (ARCH ′11) and mentor Steve Beck (ARCH ′89).
