Tree Dedication for Peter Beltemacchi on Thursday, June 7
May 30, 2012A tree dedication honoring IIT College of Architecture Associate Dean Peter Beltemacchi, who who passed away in August 2011, will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, June 7 in the Carr Chapel Memorial Grove, with reception following in Crown Hall. All members of the IIT community are invited to attend. -
Studio Associate Professor Paul Pettigrew’s Furniture Design class, who designed more than 40 pieces of furniture and other items from a single storm-felled tree, are featured on Treehugger.

Architecture Student Nghia Phan Wins Think Swiss Research Scholarship
May 23, 2012Architecture Ph.D. candidate Nghia Phan has been awarded the ThinkSwiss Research Scholarship, which supports highly motivated and qualified U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to do research at a public Swiss university or research institute for 2 to 3 months. Phan will receive a stipend to study at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Lausanne, Switzerland under Professor Fernando Porte-Agel, head of the Wind Engineering and Renewable Energy Laboratory. -
Architecture graduate student Kuanhoa Chen and undergraduate student Annie Hutches’ furniture designs constructed using wood from a storm-felled tree were named best in show at the Idea Tree competition sponsored by Sawbridge Studios, Furniture Today reports. Their creations and those of other students in Studio Associate Professor Paul Pettigrew’s class will be on exhibit in a gallery at the Inland Steel Building beginning June 1.

Master of Landscape Architecture Student Fa Likitswat Wins Schiff Foundation Fellowship
May 8, 2012MLA student Fa Likitswat has won the 2012 Schiff Foundation Fellowship for her work in Adjunct Professor Terry Guen’s fall 2011 graduate studio, “Catalytic Waterways.” The studio explored urban conditions adjacent to Chicago’s river and canal systems in order to design a new sustainable city form that integrates natural ecosystem types into the urban fabric. -
