Benjamin Franklin Project Distinguished Lecture: “Democracy and the Built Environment”
February 18, 2013The Social Sciences Department will host the Benjamin Franklin Project Distinguished Lecture, “Democracy and the Built Environment,” on Tuesday, February 26, 7:00 pm, in the McCormick Tribune Campus Center Auditorium. The event will feature Peter Onuf, Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation Professor of History at the University of Virginia, and Marshall Brown, assistant professor of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology. -
Department of Social Sciences hosts EU Regional Faculty Workshop
January 30, 2013On January 25 and 26, the Department of Social Sciences co-sponsored a two day event with the University of Illinois’ European Union Center at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. The conference titled, “Researching and Teaching the EU: Best Practices and Current Trends in EU Scholarship” was attended by community college and university faculty from across the Midwest. -

Department of Social Sciences High School Outreach Day
December 4, 2012On November 27, 150 Advanced Placement students from suburban high schools visited campus as part of a high school outreach program designed by the Department of Social Sciences in collaboration with the European Union Center at the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign. Students took tours of IIT and attended three separate events on campus. -
In a New York Daily News guest op-ed on security in the New York subway, IIT sociologist Noah McClain criticizes “awareness” programs and unproven technologies, promotes alternative approaches rooted in enhancements to everyday life.
