Ye Accepts Postdoc at Syracuse University
March 22, 2012Qi Ye, Ph.D. candidate in applied mathematics, has accepted a two-year Philip T. Church postdoctoral position in the department of mathematics at Syracuse University, where he will be teaching and conducting research with Professors Lixin Shen and Yuesheng Xu on problems in computational harmonic analysis. -
Humanities Department Hosts Women’s History Month Open House March 28
March 19, 2012On Wednesday, March 28 the Humanities Department will host a Women's History Open House Event in the Siegel Hall, room 218 (conference room) from 3 - 4:45 pm. Everyone is welcome: students, staff, faculty, and all genders. There will be food, good conversation, and handouts on women's history resources, including a pocket timeline of interesting events in women's history put together by Humanities faculty. -
IIT Math Club to Hold High School Mathematics Competition March 17
March 16, 2012The IIT Math Club will host their first annual High School Mathematics Competition at the IIT main campus on Saturday, March 17. Eight teams of students from local high schools will take individual exams in the morning, followed by a team competition in the afternoon. -

Segerstrale Elected Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts
March 9, 2012Ulllica Segerstrale, sociology professor and a scholar in science, social values and other areas known for her book Defenders of the Truth: The Battle for Science in the Sociobiology Debate, has been elected a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. She received her membership at the annual gathering of EASA in Salzburg on March 3. -
Announcing the First Results from Daya Bay: Discovery of a New Kind of Neutrino Transformation
March 8, 2012Multinational Collaboration Includes Faculty and Students at Illinois Institute of Technology. The Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment, a multinational collaboration operating in the south of China, today reported the first results of its search for the last, most elusive piece of a longstanding puzzle: how is it that neutrinos can appear to vanish as they travel? The surprising answer opens a gateway to a new understanding of fundamental physics and may eventually solve the riddle of why there is far more ordinary matter than antimatter in the universe today. -
Menhart Receives Three-Year MDA Research Award
March 1, 2012Associate Professor of Biology Nick Menhart was awarded a three-year research grant totaling $265,251 from the Muscular Dystrophy Association to study the properties of modified dystrophin proteins in Duchenne (DMD) and Becker (BMD) muscular dystrophies. In all, MDA selected 38 research projects totaling $12 million that focus on identifying the underlying causes of neuromuscular disease and finding treatments to slow, stop and reverse damage caused by disease processes.
