IIT and Argonne Researchers Discover Lipids Influence the Shapes of Proteins in Biological Membranes and Contribute to Membrane Curvature
June 15, 2012Through advances in liquid surface x-ray scattering techniques at the X-ray Science Division 9-ID beamline at the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science’s Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory, IIT Associate Professor of Physics David Gidalevitz, postdoctoral fellow Andrey Ivankin, and Ivan Kuzmenko from Argonne have discovered that lipids are also influencing the shapes of the proteins in the membrane and contributing to membrane curvature. -

June 14, 2012Dramatic towers in Canada, Qatar, Australia and Italy have been named the best tall buildings in the world for 2012 by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), the international not-for-profit association based at IIT. -
IIT Alumna Named First Female Director of Engineering at Chicago Metropolitan Water Reclamation District
June 13, 2012For the first time in its 124-year history, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) has a female director of engineering. The MWRD Board of Commissioners and Executive Director David St. Pierre appointed Bridgeport resident and IIT Armour College of Engineering alumna Catherine A. O'Connor to the post on June 7. -

June 11, 2012The Pauling Computer Lab for Quantum Chemistry and Molecular Visualization in room 210 of Wishnick Hall was recently expanded to support lab-based instruction of up to 24 students plus one professor in hands-on quantum mechanical calculations of molecular structure, dynamics, thermodynamics, and other properties, College of Science and Letters Associate Dean for Research Grant Bunker announced. -

OTS Introducing Secure Wireless on Main Campus
June 7, 2012The Office of Technology Services is in the process of upgrading the wireless infrastructure on Main Campus to a faster and more robust wireless standard known as Wireless N or 802.11n. As this new network, “IIT-WiFi,” is being rolled out on campus, OTS will also introduce secure wireless. The “IIT-Secure” connection will be activated on Friday, June 15, making secure wireless available in Wireless N enabled buildings on Main Campus. -
