  • CTA Announces Plan to Close South Red Line for Repairs in Spring of 2013

    The Chicago Transit Authority announced plans this week to shut down 10 miles of track and nine stations on the south Red Line, from the Cermak-Chinatown stop all the way to 95th Street, for five months starting in spring 2013. During the closure, the 40+ year-old tracks will be replaced on the line to eliminate "slow zones" and allow the use of new 5000-Series ‘L’ cars.

    The demand for computer science professionals continues to grow, but the numbers of women and underrepresented minorities entering the field are not keeping pace. Addressing this, Illinois Institute of Technology will offer a two-week camp to help middle-school girls to learn about and enjoy computers, June 18 - 28.

  • IIT Students Turn Storm-Felled Tree into Dozens of New Ideas – Idea Tree Project Exhibit Now Open

    Beginning June 1, Idea Tree: A Storm of Inspiration sprouts in a 5,000-square-foot, street-level gallery within the magnificent Inland Steel Building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The exhibit is the culmination of a design competition spearheaded by Sawbridge Studios in collaboration with Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), and Horigan Urban Forest Products.

  • IIT Magazine Online Exclusive: Spring Has Sprung at S. R. Crown Hall

    Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's S. R. Crown Hall is a Chicago Landmark, a National Historic Landmark, and on the National Register of Historic Places. The iconic building is also home to IIT College of Architecture, a classroom for studio projects, and a showcase for student exhibits at the annual spring Open House, which draws hundreds of visitors. For this slideshow feature, IIT photographers captured projects that students worked on and displayed in Crown Hall, Mies van der Rohe's "home for ideas and adventures."

  • Psychology Endowed Professor Ron Landis Named SIOP Fellow, Awarded Best Paper of the Year by Organizational Research Methods

    The Society of Industrial Organizational Psychology (SIOP) has named IIT Nambury S. Raju Chair of Psychology Ron Landis as a fellow, and a paper co-authored by Landis has been named a co-winner of the Best Paper of the Year for the journal Organizational Research Methods.

    A tree dedication honoring IIT College of Architecture Associate Dean Peter Beltemacchi, who who passed away in August 2011, will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, June 7 in the Carr Chapel Memorial Grove, with reception following in Crown Hall. All members of the IIT community are invited to attend.

  • Institute of Design End of Year Show Celebrates Student, Faculty Work

    More than 100 IIT Institute of Design students and faculty showcased a diverse selection of work to nearly 200 guests on Friday, May 11, at the school’s annual End of Year Show, which also celebrated ID’s 75th anniversary as the New Bauhaus. The show was divided into three parts that included large installations of the “Knowledge Box,” the “Concept Loop” and the “Future Design Experience.”
