Help The Tornado Victims of Harrisburg, Illinois
March 20, 2012On February 29 a powerful F4 tornado, 200 yards wide and packing 170 mph winds devastated the small city of Harrisburg, Illinois located in downstate Illinois killing seven people. FEMA denied disaster funding to the city stating Harrisburg should receive assistance from local government and community groups to rebuild. -
Humanities Department Hosts Women’s History Month Open House March 28
March 19, 2012On Wednesday, March 28 the Humanities Department will host a Women's History Open House Event in the Siegel Hall, room 218 (conference room) from 3 - 4:45 pm. Everyone is welcome: students, staff, faculty, and all genders. There will be food, good conversation, and handouts on women's history resources, including a pocket timeline of interesting events in women's history put together by Humanities faculty. -
Molex Innovators Series: IIT Empowering Haiti Part II Now Online
March 19, 2012The second part of Molex's new video series, "Innovators," which follows college students and companies that are improving the world through technological innovations, is now available online. Episode 2 continues the story of the IIT team in Haiti. In this episode the students upgrade the PC charging station at the solar power computer lab they built. -

Perfect Power “Smart EV Charging Station” Ribbon-Cutting on March 19
March 16, 2012IIT's Robert W. Galvin Center for Electricity Innovation will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony marking the installation of the Perfect Power “Smart EV Charging Station” at 12 pm on Monday, March 19, 2012. The Galvin Center will also host the Chicago stop of the Electric Odyssey, the first world tour of a standard electric car. -
Architecture’s Terry Guen to Work on Navy Pier Redesign
March 16, 2012Adjunct Professor of Landscape Architecture Terry Guen will work on the Navy Pier redesign, slated to open for the pier's centennial in 2016. Guen's design team, lead by landscape architect James Corner, was chosen by the Navy Pier board in an international competition. The board will work with the Corner team on the final design proposal over the next few months. -
IIT Math Club to Hold High School Mathematics Competition March 17
March 16, 2012The IIT Math Club will host their first annual High School Mathematics Competition at the IIT main campus on Saturday, March 17. Eight teams of students from local high schools will take individual exams in the morning, followed by a team competition in the afternoon. -

March 15, 2012Join the Mies van der Rohe Society on March 27, 2012, at 6 pm in S.R. Crown Hall to celebrate Mies' 126th birthday and his influence on Vidal Sassoon—for the shear fun of it! In the mid-twentieth century, Mies changed architecture when he designed buildings for structure and simplicity. Little did he know his functional approach would inspire iconic haircuts, proving more can be done with Mies' approach to "less." -
