IIT College of Architecture Invests Wiel Arets as New Dean
March 7, 2013On Wednesday, March 13, IIT College of Architecture will celebrate Mies van der Rohe's 127th birthday, his influence on Chicago, and the investiture of Wiel Arets as the Rowe Family College of Architecture Dean Endowed Chair. Seventy-five years ago, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe arrived in the United States to lead the College of Architecture and profoundly influence the world’s taste and built environment. Now the college begins another era of influence as it celebrates the investiture of Wiel Arets. -

Google Honors Mies van der Rohe with a Crown Hall Doodle on His Birthday
March 27, 2012Google today pays homage to legendary architect and educator Ludwig Mies van der Rohe with a Crown Hall-themed doodle, a variation of the Google logo. Born on March 27, 1886 in Aachen, Germany, Mies is widely acknowledged as one of the 20th century's greatest architects. By emphasizing open space and revealing the industrial materials used in construction, he helped define modern architecture. -

March 15, 2012Join the Mies van der Rohe Society on March 27, 2012, at 6 pm in S.R. Crown Hall to celebrate Mies' 126th birthday and his influence on Vidal Sassoon—for the shear fun of it! In the mid-twentieth century, Mies changed architecture when he designed buildings for structure and simplicity. Little did he know his functional approach would inspire iconic haircuts, proving more can be done with Mies' approach to "less." -

January 12, 2012The IIT College of Architecture and the Mies van der Rohe Society are pleased to present the "Celebration of the Reopening of the Villa Tugendhat: Mies Here and There," featuring a series of lectures, panel discussion, and exhibition on the Ludwig Mies van der Rohe-designed villa in Brno, Czech Republic. The symposium will be held from 9 am - 2 pm on Saturday, January 21 in the MTCC Auditorium (exhibition to follow in Crown Hall).
