Associate Professor of Physics Jeff Terry Gives Colloquium at Columbia University
March 12, 2013Jeff Terry, associate professor of physics, gave the Material Science and Engineering Colloquium at Columbia University. His talk, titled “Synchrotron Radiation Studies of Advanced Nuclear Energy Materials,” focused on the application of synchrotron techniques to measure the electronic structure and the nano- and meso-scale geometric structure of materials of interest to the nuclear community. -

October 15, 2012On October 23, Jeff Terry, associate professor of physics, will be a plenary speaker at NuMat 2012: the Nuclear Materials Conference in Osaka, Japan. His talk is titled “Synchrotron Radiation Studies of Advanced Nuclear Energy Materials” and will be part of the structural and functional materials for fission and fusion reactors session. -

Professional Master’s Student Derik Heiss to Speak at Global Space Exploration Conference
April 5, 2012Derik Heiss, who will graduate from IIT’s master of chemistry in analytical chemistry program this December, will give a talk at this year’s Global Space Exploration Conference (GLEX) in Washington, DC on May 23. Heiss’s presentation is titled “Microchannel Air Revitalization System (MCARS) for Closed-Loop Environmental Control and Life Support." -

March 29, 2012Anita Thomas (AMAT 3rd year) will present her research, "Sampling Within the k-Means Algorithm to Cluster Large Datasets," at the Infinite Possibilities Conference, March 30-31 at the University of Maryland. Thomas reduced the amount of data needed to obtain accurate clusters, thus decreasing runtime to a reasonable speed. -
